A great casual spot for some great seafood!

Pearl Diver is a small restaurant with a very homey and rustic feel to it. We came here on a Thursday night and was quite busy, so reservations are recommended.

We ordered the 100 oysters for $100 special (Thursday night's special). Oysters came in 3 batches to minimize wait time, which is great. The PEI Malpeques they gave us were fresh with just the right kind of brininess - yum!

My companions also ordered the Fish and Chips, and the Mussels + fries - both of which are great, especially the fries.

I would totally come here again, perhaps to try the other specials that they have on weekdays.

One of my favorite places in Toronto. Great oysters and fish in a friendly pub with pleasant servers. Before 6PM they offer drink and oyster specials. Don't miss the Thursday night 100 oysters for $100.

First time customer with friend for Saturday Brunch. Happy to have made reservations. First to arrive and the place fills within minutes.

We start with a dozen oysters and Mimosas. The seafood is wonderful but the drinks lack punch. More of the bubbly and less of the orange juice in these small flute glasses would be nice.

Our server is pleasant but alone struggling to keep up in a sea of patrons vying for her attention.

Lobster Benny, side bacon and Caesars follow. The meal is well presented, tasty and the bacon is crisp. Attention to detail and pride in one’s work are obvious. The Caesars follow the way of the Mimosas, weak.

Dessert ends the meal. Both ordered are delicious and any chosen from the board or menu will not disappoint. Preference goes to the sticky toffee bread pudding. The coffee, as with the drinks lacks flavour. The word weak keeps popping up. With only one Wait Staff on hand, flares are deployed for refills on the coffee.

Two types of Irish Whiskey are ordered. Quality is present. A second round follows but my glass has two large cracks in the crystal. Replacement is brought. Looking into the glass, I find a piece of shell and a tiny bug doing the backstroke. OK, that too is quickly replaced BUT and this is a capital BUT, I am still charged. At the very least that last drink should have been comped or a double provided. A faux pas.

Seating by way of chairs and benches are bear wood. A lengthy sit down will leave you sore. BYOC. Bring your own cushion.

The various meals being served look delicious and of good quality. Minor tweaks here and there would certainly improve the dining experience.

UPDATE: June 2017. Second visit this time with my sister. Reservations requested one of the two small tables by the front window with a reply it would not be a problem. We show up on time and sorry, it's a problem. Both tables are taken. My sister chooses a booth further back but the speaker is a tad too loud for normal conversation.
The meal however, Lobster Benny and *Shrimp Po-Boy are beautiful and satisfy us both. Our Waitress is her usual expedient, professional self. She remembers me from my first visit of four weeks ago. As a business, Staff like that you hang on for dear life. They wont botch up a customers' order.

    * I can't say enough of the taste of this dish and don't want to bore you by dissecting it ingredient by ingredient. Just go ahead and have one.

Still 4 Stars in my book...but waiting for round three.

Showed up 10 Minutes passed 10PM for a table of 4 to celebrate an early birthday. Ordered a bottle of wine, took some time looking through the menu. When it was time to order we got a very nice waiter who we told we wanted the special. He comes back a few minutes after to tell us his manager will not honor the 100 for $100 deal. We asked why, he said the special ends at 10pm. We told him we just missed the cut off and if there is an exception they can make as we were celebrating a birthday. Also when we called early to make a reservation they told us to come for 10:30 and no mention by the person on the phone that FYI the special tonight ends at 10pm. We asked to speak with the manager and my god I have never seen anyone go on a bigger power trip. He comes to our table and starts with "is there a problem here?" He was aggressive and was telling us he already declined a table of 12 "in the back" for the same special. He mentioned it's a strict policy that he cannot break. We told him that we are celebrating a birthday and that we planned on getting a few bottles of wine and order other apps as well. He told us no and that he will give us the 12 for $18 which is Wednesday's special. He was obviously just trying to get us to spend more money per oyster which is shocking because we would have spent more money on the 100 for 100. After the altercation we simply told him we will finish our wine and leave, as we don't like the tone nor his manner in which he was talking to us. He told us not to tell him how to run his business and to bad and leave. we told him we are not and we want nothing to do with his business. After a few minutes of us trying to drink our wine as fast as possible so we can leave; he comes back showing us his phone telling us that even on their website the deal ends at 10pm. We told him we understand that in ends at 10PM we are simply asking for an exception and that you are so rude that you spoiled our evening and now we want to leave. We didn't want to order anything at this point because of the way the manager was conducting himself. After realizing that we were turned off by him, he tried to offer us 4 free oysters. We told him we don't want his charity and that we are leaving regardless at this point. Even at this point if he hypothetically was to honor the special there was no way we would stay! If he just simply said he doesn't have enough staff or enough oyster to complete a 100 for $100 order we would have been fine. It's all about how you deliver a message. It was his ego and his attitude that it be the better of him. This is our 3rd time coming here and i can assure you it will be the last. The waiter was very friendly and we understand it was not his fault, the waiter didn’t seem shocked by the actions of the manager so it would be safe to assume this happens more often then we think. Just a heads up for anyone heading to this place!
