  The Garden Gate Restaurant (locally called The Goof because back in the 60's the big neon sign that said Good Food had some lights burnt out and all it said was GOOF) has reliably been serving Chinese and Canadian food in the Beach area on Queen St E for many decades. You can find this restaurant searching on Google for just 'The Goof' ... ha ha
  
  I'm in my sixties and the restaurant is so old that I remember getting kicked out for some teenage pranks. In fact when I returned to the restaurant after over a decade of living outside of Toronto, the same waiter who had kicked me out was still there serving our table. When he came over he eyed me suspiciously and then smiled and asked if I was going to behave myself this time ... ha ha
  
  Sorry ... the food! The food at The Goof is consistent and tasty. Not the best in the city but oh what memories when I bike there from downtown to get my good old number 8 dish. I've ordered from them for a larger party and everyone was happy with the quality and quantity but there were no raves.
  
  They have a good patio to people watch on Queen St East and it is a quick downhill ride to the lake if you prefer take out and people watch on the boardwalk.
