Reviews about Onoir
- 5 / 5By Elizabeth TraskWhat an amazing and humbling experience. The staff was very nice and helpful. They answered all our questions we had about the experience. For example most of the wait staff has been there for 9 years (I'm assuming since it opened) and they have extensive training to study the dining room layout. All the servers are visually impaired in some way. Some have no sight at all, some can see shadows and lights but no definition. You are led into a pitch black room by placing your hand on the shoulder of the person in front of you. It's a little unsettling at first trying to get your bearings and not knock anything over. You keep expecting your eyes to adjust to the dark but they don't because it is so dark. Your sense of smell, taste hearing are heightened. The food was delicious and our server was very nice. I have a new respect for my sight and will not take it for granted. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Toronto.May 12, 2017
- 5 / 5By Zack YoungI've been 5 times so far - Nasir and Gavin are fantastic, attentive and professional waitstaff. The food quality has always been high whenever I've ordered - Mousse and Sorbet desserts, Fillet Minion, Pesto Chicken and meat or vegetable starters.
Provides a positive environment to experience heightened senses and the difficulties those whom are seeing impaired. Forces you to also focus on conversation and flavour.
I think the only complaints I have after my times here is the cooler atmosphere, but that's easily remedied by bringing a sweater or long-sleeve shirt.November 15, 2016 - 3 / 5By Cindi Michael BarbaThe uniqueness of this place makes it worth a look, but the dishes themselves are quite average which is disappointing for a place with such an interesting hook. For a "mystery meal" we were served a salad, risotto, and a slice of cheesecake, none of which were very notable. It seemed like a wasted opportunity, not serving interesting or unique textures to complement the unsighted dining. The bill was very steep and while I understand it goes to the servers the sentiment was not enough to make up for the meal. For positives, the dining room is truly pitch black and the servers are very friendly. Hopefully Onoir can find a way to turn their gimmick into an actual experience.October 29, 2016
- 5 / 5By Zachary NeillThe focus of the experience was the atmosphere and the idea of eating in total darkness. So, I never really expected amazing food. It proved true that the food was nothing to rave about. The waiter was really nice. He also caught us dancing. Veteran waiter!August 29, 2016
