Great food, hampered by a cramped kitchen that's well and obviously over- extended on busy nights.
I'm knocking 2 stars off just for that alone - and it's no fault of the wait staff that service was ridiculously slow - 50 minutes from ordering mains til first(!) was served and THEN another 10 mins until 2 others In our party got theirs! That alone shows the kitchen is way out of their depth for the # of covers they are trying to ram through. Heard others at adjoining tables stating same disappointment with wait times. And yet, you know what, nothing's going to change - people just sigh and accept this in Toronto

The food: excellent - once it arrived - but really not at all impressed w the wait and misaligned serving -

Also bye bye another star. don't bother with their cocktails - (drink beforehand) for 14 dollars you get a glass of Lilliputian proportions - I literally stared at it when it arrived, expecting that I was being pranked, or that there was a second component yet to pour, but nope, that's their standard cocktail size. Without ice, it "might" constitute a double espresso's shot of alcohol- but nowhere approaching 14 dollars' value.

tl;dr : great food, great wait staff, waaaaaaaay over-extended kitchen, laughable drink sizes.

"Tasty, home style food | homey presentation"

I'd say this restaurant gets a 3.5 for the food - tasty, and satisfying but the experience lacked. We had the brisket and the cod entrees with the hummus and spicy olives and finished with the carrot cake. All delicious. The cod was bland but good. The brisket was excellent.

Portion sizes - 2.5 oz of cod and sliver of carrot cake ($8?) notably were disappointing. It seems the Leslieville restaurant theme is small portions for maximum prices. (We saw this at Prohibition and Barrio too) Drinks are $14 - over-priced by our standards. The "crisps' with the hummus were stale and were poured out of a bag and dumped on the plate. The spicy olives were very good.

Plating and presentation were lacking - food dumped on a plate basically. Normally not a big requirement but it was notable here. Our server was pleasant but forgot our napkins at the appetizer stage and left us to use our hands with oily food. She forgot the specials of the day too. Loud music created an atmosphere where people were shouting and strained to be heard at times.

The folks in Leslieville seem to be quite happy to drop $100-200 without blinking over these things but we found it disappointing.

Professional food preparation and presentation go hand-in-hand in the restaurant game and the feeling was the house staff were not exactly grads of the George Brown Cooking school.

    3.5 stars for food.

Was a little hesitant at first when this was recommended for a double birthday, but what a gem it turned out to be. The only 2 staff members there ran it like a staff of 20. The atmosphere was relaxing, staff was extremely friendly, I can`t say enough good things about the food (my fav is the Breast of Chicken – just down right delicious) and the desserts were amazing and made in house!. Highly recommend this place for all types of eaters and the prices are just right!!

Would not recommend! My boyfriend and I are vegan, we ordered the vegetarian pizza and there ended up being chicken on it, which we didn't realize until it was almost done. Then, they refused to split the bills with the table of about 12 people (understandable) so they totalled the bill and divided it by people (not understandable). Which meant every person paid $50. My boyfriend and I split the pizza and because they charged by person that meant we were forced to pay $100+ for our meal. Overall, I paid $110 for meal that was actually worth $25 and had chicken on it. They don't really seem to care as long as they get their money

This is one of our favourite local places for dinner. Great atmosphere, very good food , beautiful quiet patio for the summer time and the baked goods are homemade by the chef/owner's wife.
I highly recommend that you give it a try
