  I've been to Cafe California a few times but I've had two bad experiences now and I don't think I'll be returning. The first was a couple of years ago with an organized group. Because it was a prearranged party they only offered a fixed price menu for our table... everyone else in the place was ordering from the regular menu. The food was okay but it was more than would have ordered and the bill (which they we're happy to issue individually) was more than twice what I was planning to spend.
  
  More recently during the PRIDE festival all the restaurants in the main few blocks were lined up 12 deep except for CC... never a good sign but I thought "I just want a light salad, they can't go too wrong with that". I ordered the Santa Barbara Salad (Sweet and bitter greens, pine nuts, raisins, mushrooms, sun-dried tomato, basil pesto vinaigrette). Yes, there were bitter greens and about eight pine nuts, but not a raisin or a mushroom on the plate. They substituted the sun dried tomatoes with cherry tomatoes and the dressing was just some cheap bland vegetable oil that lacked the tang of any sort of vinegar or taste of basil.
  
  Cafe California has seen the last of me.

  Had an amazing meal here after a long day.
  
  Fresh ingredients. Killer salad. Stunning pasta. Did not taste processed. But, most of all, the service was over the top: personal, funny, engaging and incredibly attentive. Bob, the manager, made our experience so memorable that my wife made me leave this positive review.
  
  If you want a great meal at reasonable prices and great service then check out this establishment.

  This was my second time at Cafe California. I ordered from the fixed price menu for $28. For appetizer, I had the "focaccia with mozzarella". It was neither. A soggy piece of grocery are garlic toast with a slice of processed cheese on top!! Not even real cheese! For $28. The main was pizza blanco. Grocery store pizza crust with huge hunks of home fry breakfast potatoes. It was dry and unappetizing. For dessert, creme brulee with berries. A watery custard swimming with blue berries inside rather than on the top. It was a disgusting watery mess. I also tried my partner's gnocchi and it had a very grainy texture.
  
  I would not recommend. You can get better food across the street at Sambuca's.
